Cool Cruisers

We don't wear much on Dream Time, especially when we're cruising in the tropics - boardshorts, bikinis and lavalavas are about as dressed-up as we like to get. But one item we sport every day are our Maui Jim sunglasses. Their patented PolarizedPlus®2 lenses block 99.9% of the sun's glare, 100% of harmful UV rays, and deliver the richest colors and the highest contrast we've ever seen, so no matter where we are, we always see the world at its very best. And their wide selection of styles make us look pretty good, too! Mahalo Nui Loa Maui Jim!   Learn more about Maui Jim >

It's the people we meet on our world voyage that often define the places we visit. Panasonic's Lumix Digital Cameras allow us to capture an emotion, an instance of vulnerability or a fleeting connection with a stranger - moments that we'll save, share and cherish for a lifetime. Dream Time is proud to have the support of Panasonic Toughbook computers. Sailing around the world is challenging, and to endure the demanding conditions, the right gear is essential. It's reassuring knowing our Panasonic Toughbook computers have been designed, engineered and tested to survive these extreme conditions. It's one less thing to worry about. Thank you Panasonic.  Learn more >

Love the Journey
We love to travel, and whether crossing oceans, hiking glaciers or just letting the road guide us to the next discovery, we passionately seek the natural and cultural wonders of our world. But we travel light, space is a premium on Dream Time and we don't have room for unnecessary gear, so what we carry has to be comfortable, versatile and durable. We discovered Kathmandu clothing while touring New Zealand in 2009, and we've been avid followers of their gear ever since. Life is an adventure, and now with Kathmandu as an official Dream Time sponsor, we've never been better equipped to live the dream. Thanks Kathmandu!   Learn more about Kathmandu>

A Powerful Resource
We enjoy exploring the remote corners of the world, but to live off-the-grid for months, sometimes years at a time, it helps to have the right equipment. Our D400 wind generator, solar panels, Spectra watermaker and MasterVolt system all help us to live a comfortable life at sea, and thanks to the generous support of Enertec Marine, Dream Time has never been better equipped to unplug.

Specialists in marine electrical systems, power products and desalinators, Enertec, located in Auckland, New Zealand, are authorized to service, sell and install some of the most desired, proven and reliable brands in the marine industry.

So if you're crossing the Pacific and in need of a full upgrade, repairs, or some professional advice, Enertec's team of qualified technicians are ready to help you make all the right connections. Thank you Enertec Marine!

Our sail inventory was the most essential investment we made whilst preparing Dream Time for her world circumnavigation. Knowing that they would be expected to perform in some of the most demanding conditions imaginable, and carry us well over 20,000 nautical miles, North Sails combination of durable, high-performance sailcloth, hardware and skilled sailmaking skills provided us with a custom suit of sails that we know will go the distance.

North Sail continues to provide Dream Time with additional hardware and advice - ensuring that whether they're filled with the steady trades of the Caribbean or reefed to withstand the demanding conditions of high lattitudes, they'll be up for the task.

Whether we need to drop sail quickly just seconds before a squall, reef whilst running in a gale, or simply catch tradewinds for twenty eight days straight on a three-thousand nautical mile passage, our Tides Marine Track and Slide System gives us reliable performance and low-friction handling of our mainsail when we need it most.

Installation is easy, and machined from UHMW-PE the tracks durable UV stable construction, combined with the hand-polished 316 stainless slides, means our mainsail keeps running smoothly, whatever the conditions. Thank you Tides Marine for supplying us with such a great system, we wouldn't want to raise our mainsail without it!

The earlier you sight a remote marker, dangerous reef or identify the heading of a distant ship, the more time you'll have to react. Steiner binoculars are our eyes at sea, enabling us to see more and anticipate what's coming before it arrives. The rugged construction, waterproof casing, precision manufacturing and advanced optics deliver an image that is clear and bright, enabling us to remain focused, whatever we're approaching. And as the innovators of the integrated compass, with Steiner, we know precisely where to look.

Steiner binoculars may not enable us to see the future, but they come very close - thank you Steiner.

Whether you're at sea or anchored in a remote corner of the world, communication is no longer considered a luxury, it's essential. For over eleven years I continued managing my NY-based design studio with the help of Global Marine Networks, acquires by Pivotel, which provides the hardware and service solutions to ensure mariners can stay connected wherever they are. From XGate satellite email services offering speeds up to 15x faster than uncompressed internet based email systems, weather GRIBs, web and social media access, to satellite phones, satellite data modems, and long-range WiFi and GSM boosters, Pivotel provides better connections, everywhere!

World cruising is full of surprises, usually that's what makes it so enjoyable. But the osmosis we discovered on Dream Time, after almost three years of cruising, was not a welcome one. Fortunately, however, we discovered our problem at Gulf Harbour Marina in New Zealand, home to Osmosis Solutions LTD - a company that developed an exclusive epoxy vinylester coating system, which luckily for us, has proven to be one of the most effective and superior osmosis solutions in the world.

For over five years Brewer Yacht Yards helped us ready Dream Time for her circumnavigation. From the top of her mast to the bottom of her keel, there wasn't a system on the boat they didn't improve or replace.

Thank you Brewer Yacht Yards, and particularly to Mark Friel, the General Manager and a good friend, for your outstanding services and support, without which, it's hard to imagine Dream Time would have ever been ready. And for your continued support - it's reassuring knowing that what ever problems we encounter, where ever we may be, you'll be there to help us stay on course.

Not only did SeaSchool help us obtain our OUPV Captain's Licenses before we left New York, but they continue to support our travels by providing valuable navigational charts, guidance, support and even a parachute sea anchor - a gift we hope never needs to be unwrapped. With offices across the United States and the Caribbean, SeaSchool offers over 40 U.S.C.G. approved courses, over 28 years of experience and USCG Certified Instructors with extensive knowledge in commercial vessel operation and instruction.

A very special thank you to Frank Silvestro for your words of infinite wisdom, funny sea yarns but more importantly, your friendship. We look forward to you joining us on Dream Time.

To fully prepare Dream Time for extended off-shore cruising we're thankful for the support of SnookBight Yacht Club and Marina. Located in Fort Myers Beach Florida, SnookBight was the perfect location to tackle all of our last-minute projects before heading south into the Caribbean. Thanks to their expert advice and first-rate facilities, we were able to install new solar panels, a Spectra Catalina 150 watermaker, an iCOM SSB radio and new canvas in record time.
